Gourami

Our lips lock against one another’s,
constrained against each other’s teeth
our fight in disguise as a kiss.

We fight for space and glide as one,
muscled bodies in refracted light
with unequal strength but competing drive.

Our bodies wrestle back and forth
with salty skin and impeding force –
we spar but not like knights.
